I'm playing "catch-up" on my posts because our internet service has been non-existent for a while.

Virginia City, MT

This was a great little "ghost town".  I was really amazed at the amount of product the stores had on the shelves.

Virginia City was founded as a gold mining town in 1864.  It was the capital of the Idaho territory for 10 years, 1865-75. In the 1940's, Charles and Sue Bovey began buying the town putting much needed maintenance into failing structures. The ghost town ov Virginia City began to be restored for tourism in the 1950's.  Most of the city is now owned by the state government and is a National Historic Landmark operated as an open-air museum.  Of the nearly 300 structures in town, almost half were built prior to 1900.  Buildings in their original condition with Old West period displays and information plaques stand next to thoroughly modern diners and other amenities.
