October 5, 2014

We travelled to Clear Lake Oaks, CA to visit Ann, a friend of Tom's from school.  She set us up in a private community campground.  It was a lovely spot.  But it was definitely HOT in that part of the state.  We didn't have hook-ups there so we ran the generator for a while so we could have air conditioning.  The generator is a bit noisy

We went through Napa Valley on the way to Eli and Mildred's (Tom' sis and brother in law). who live in Redwood City, CA.  The Valley was even more beautiful that I had imagined, especially Calistoga and St. Helena.  The whole place smells like wine.

We'll be in Redwood City until after the Pumpkin Festival in Half Moon Bay which will be on October 17th and 18th.  Took a day trip to the Bay this day to check out places we might be able to park the RV.  Forget about the campgrounds, they were booked long ago.  We spotted several spots we might park.  It was another hot day, but not as hot in Half Moon Bay as it was in Redwood City.  We took a little bike ride around Tom's old stomping grounds.

Tom attached a crate so Hercules could go on bike rides with us.

October 4, 2015

We did the tour of Shasta Lake Caverns.  Enjoyed the caverns and got a real workout in the process.  We had to hike to the boat to get across the lake and then on to the bus up to the visitor center, then hike to the cave entrance and climb hundreds of stairs. The caverns have a large assortment of formations and we learned, then forgot, the names for all of them.  Then we hiked back down to the visitor center, got on the bus, the boat, and hiked back up to gift shop.

The boat coming to get us.

We stayed one more night with Steve and Sharon and had fun playing cards in the evening.

I was able to reach Steve in the morning so we continued on to Weed.  On the way we pulled over and I got this great shot of Mount Shasta.

Steve got us all set up with hook-ups by thier home then we went to Lake Siskiyou and hiked to the new footbridge.

The Dantinis have beautiful landscaping.  Non of my photos could do it justice.

We headed for Klamath Falls, Oregon.  I knew there was a bike trail there somewhere, but since we couldn't get online, we couldn't find it.  We were going to continue down to Weed, CA to visit a friend of mine from high school, Steve Dantini and his new wife, Sharon.  We were several days earlier than planned, so I wanted to check with him before going there.  Besides, I didn't have the address.  I tried calling but wasn't able to reach him.  So we stopped at the Grass Lake Rest Stop between Klamath Falls and Weed and spent the night.  It was really a lovely spot.

I made us a couple of chicken sandwiches and we did the rim drive around Crater Lake.  The total mileage around the lake is 33 miles.  We stopped at a waterfall and ate the sandwiches.  The weather was mostly overcast with sun breaks.   I really do suck at blogging!!!  Maybe I'll get better.  I SURE HOPE SO.

Crater Lake National Park

We set up camp at Diamond Lake RV Park just outside the National Park.  Had some time left to go to the park and look at the lake.
