Galveston Island

We got a campsite at Galveston Island State Park for a week.  The best thing about this site is that it's so close to the beach!  It's maybe a 40 ft walk.

We took a tour of the Moody Mansion in town. The thirty one room estate was built in 1895.  The tour gave us lots of very interesting information about the home life of a powerful Texas family.  The Moodys established one the the great American financial empires.  Based on cotton, it grew to include banking, ranching, insurance, and hotels. Unfortunately, they didn't allow photos inside the building.  That's probably the thing I will most remember about this mansion.
